Maya's Notebook

Almost forgot about this stuff! This is concept work for one of my last projects in BFA, a few months back, based on the book, “Maya’s Notebook.”

This was an earlier version of the main character, Maya.

Here is the final design of Maya at three different stages of the story...

 I hadn't had much experience drawing cars, so I tried to tackle this design. My big mistake was that I tried to ride the line between realistic and stylized, so I ended up with just a poorly drawn car.

Cafe Milano

 This started as a master study of a painting by one of my favorite contemporary artists, Chris Turnham (http://christurnham.tumblr.com/), which inspired the plant and the overall lighting. I was having so much fun with it, that I kept adding more, and then I changed it completely. I started referencing this photo I found on Tumblr...

Then it kept growing from there...

Had a lot of fun with this one. The composition isn't the best, but I kind of like this one, if only because I learned so much from it.
